Sometimes you just have to remind yourself–it’s the Redskins. As a fan of one of the most woebegone franchises of the last twenty years, I’ve had plenty of practice dealing with absurdity. It’s starting early this year.
Remember last year? Even with Sexy Rexy at QB, we were 3-1 and the outlook was optimistic. Then the injury bug hit the offensive line, and the whole thing went to hell. Rex became a sitting duck. I’ve watched a lot of bad Redskins teams over the years, but last year’s squad hit lows that were previously unimaginable. John Beck vs Buffalo? The worst.
Now it’s a whole new deal with Griffin in the driver’s seat. Hope has arrived. Unfortunately, he and the team’s hopes may be beginning the season with a patchwork offensive line. Jammal Brown’s hip has placed him on the PUP list, and Kory Lichtensteiger had another scope on his knee on Monday. Aside from Trent Williams, those two are our most reliable linemen.
The Skins did add some talent to the line through the draft this year and last year, but primarily these were late round picks who need time to develop. Looks like the rookies are getting a shot at the lineup sooner than anticipated. The pre-season just got a lot more interesting.
