Redskins pare active roster to 75

By Mark Pierce

As all NFL teams are required to do as of this date, the Washington Redskins released a number of players today in order to meet league roster requirements.  The following players were waived, according to

Antwon Bailey RB Syracuse
Lennon Creer RB Louisiana Tech
Chris Campbell OL Eastern Illinois
Sam Kirkland WR Kent State
Monte Lewis LB Jacksonville State
Nick Martinez OL Oklahoma State
Beau Reliford TE Florida State
Jonathan Crompton QB Tennessee
Morgan Trent (Injured) CB Michigan
Lance Lewis (Injured) WR East Carolina

Additionally, the Skins traded defensive back Kevin Barnes to the Detroit Lions, for a conditional draft pick. The condition in this case is that Barnes make the team in Detroit. If that doesn’t happen then Barnes can be considered just another cut and the team gets nothing.

Veteran Kicker Neil Rackers was released by the team today as well. Final cuts to 53 players will occur on August 31.   The Redskins have one pre-season game remaining.

About ImproperRedskin

I grew up watching the Redskins with my dad. I feel I've always been a part of Redskins Nation. I'm so excited about the direction the team is taking now. I feel somewhat exiled in terms of the skins living in Boston, even though I know there are other fans here. That's pretty much why I started doing this, to touch base with other Redskins fans across the country. There's always something to talk about with the Redskins, isn't there? I want to hear your voice.
